Are the products tested for heavy metals?Updated 7 days ago

As of January 2025, we use two third-party accredited testing labs: Exact Scientific Services (exactscientific.com) and Certified Laboratories (certified-laboratories.com). The lab selected depends on the product and its manufacturing location (all U.S.-based). Standard testing includes a micro and pathogen panel that checks for parameters such as plate counts (bacteria, as you know, not all bacteria are bad), yeast, mold, salmonella, E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and coliforms.

Heavy metals are spot-tested for the following:

Arsenic
Lead
Cadmium
Mercury

All plant-based foods naturally contain trace amounts of metals absorbed from the soil (along with beneficial nutrients). For example, leafy greens like spinach and root vegetables like beets tend to absorb more than others. Since this is a natural occurrence, every ingredient and harvest may vary slightly. The exposure from eating a salad, drinking juice, or snacking on a protein bar is quite different from exposure to lead found in the paint of older homes, for example.

At this time, we do not share specific test results externally.
