Are the products tested for heavy metals?Updated 4 hours ago
Hello Sprout Living Community!
Heavy metals is a topic that comes up from time to time in the health and wellness industry. And because there's a lot of noise and confusion out there, we wanted to share a little bit more with you - hopefully to put your mind (and body) at ease.
Along with nutrients like vitamins and minerals, plants also naturally absorb trace amounts - often measured in the millionths or billionths of a gram - of metals from the soil. There's some in every bowl of salad, cup of red wine and everything in between, organic or otherwise.
While it's not possible to get to zero, that's still our target.
Let's talk about California's Prop 65. If you're in California, you see warnings everywhere and are probably used to it - but if you're not, they may be alarming. Why? The truth is that Prop 65 litigation has become a big business in California (a bit of ambulance chasing). In some instances, brands like ours (and ours specifically) will label a product to avoid this unpredictable risk. What started off as well intentioned has taken a bit of a turn over the last 35 years or so years. It's also not keeping up with the realities of the food supply. The thresholds are almost impossibly strict and include a large built-in safety margin. Still our products consistently test within the limits.
Some of our commitments to you.
- 3rd party testing each raw material and finished product with an accredited lab on raw materials and finished goods for microbiology and pathology - think bacterias, yeast, mold, coliforms and the scarier stuff like salmonella, E.coli and Staphylococcus aureus.
- Spot testing on heavy metal including the big 4: arsenic, lead, cadmium and mercury.
- No metals are added during the supply chain.
- Formulated to minimize heavy metal exposure.
- Ingredient lots and batches are intentionally selected to keep levels as low as possible.
Every Sprout Living product you receive is carefully analyzed and tested, so you can enjoy with confidence.
